German Courses in Munich: Cultural Program

Written by Fernanda

Cultural Activities in Munich

Learning a new language also means learning about a different culture and way of life. That's why we organize a wide range of activities to allow you to obtain deeper insight into the German way of life and give you a chance to get to know Munich and the surrounding countryside.

All German intensive courses are complimented by an interesting and extensive leisure program that includes films, theatre, museums and exhibitions, visits to historical castles, sport activities, and bicycle and city tours.

We also offer guided visits to:

Chiemsee Islands

The castle on the Men's Island is one of the biggest tourist attractions in upper Bavaria.

Salzburg

The city of Salzburg - and especially its historic city centre - is in fact one of the loveliest places in Europe, winning international acclaim in 1997 when it was designated a world heritage site by UNESCO.

Dachau

«Dachau - the significance of this name will never be erased from German history. It stands for all concentration camps which the Nazis established in their territory» (Eugen Kogon)

Beer gardens

The tradition has spread all over Germany, but you won't get the genuine thing anywhere else but in Munich: Biergärten. In earlier times when brewers were desperate to keep their beer cool during the summer, they stored their barrels in cellars and planted chestnut trees above them, since their wide branches and large leaves keep the place nice and shady. King Ludwig I granted the brewers the right to sell their beer on the spot - but not food. Since then, the people of Munich have flocked to these gardens to drink fresh beer straight from the barrel, bringing along their own food. Among the best-known and most aesthetically pleasing of Munich's beer halls is the Hofbräuhaus, famous as much for its beer as for its over-the-top Bavarian atmosphere.

German Courses in Munich: Accommodation

Written by Fernanda

Accommodation Options in Munich

The most effective way to learn a foreign language is to live in the country and talk with native speakers - in this case, with Germans in Germany! This is why we offer participants in our German Intensive Courses the opportunity to stay with local people in their city homes. These living arrangements will get the student involved in everyday German life.

Our homestay flats and houses are all centrally located - a maximum of 30 minutes' commuting time from the school; some flats are only a few minutes walk from the school. Students have there their own fully furnished room (with bedding) and the use of a shared kitchen and bathroom.

Students are expected to arrive at their accommodation on the Sunday before the start of the course and leave on the Saturday after the end of the course. The rooms are inspected and regularly controlled by the secretary in charge of student accommodation.

Learn German in Munich: Our experience is your key to success

«Munich shines» - and how!

So said Thomas Mann, way back in 1902 and his words still hold true today. This beautiful old city is a media, arts and cultural metropolis, the capital of Bavaria, home of Princesses and Kings for centuries and, to top it all, Germany's economic centre for technology. The so-called 'Silicon Valley' of Europe!

Munich by Numbers

With close to 1.3 million inhabitants, this 850 year old historical centre is Germany's third largest city. It boasts 11 colleges and universities attended by some 87,000 students, 58 theatres, 89 cinemas, 2 opera houses, 45 museums and art collections including the world-renowned «Neue Pinakothek», «Alte Pinakothek» and «Pinakothek der Moderne»! To add to this impressive list are 7 breweries and, of course, the Oktoberfest (Sept. 19th-Oct. 4th 2009). It's the world's biggest festival attracting over 6.5 million visitors each year to it's legendary beer tents.

Munich and its surroundings

The area around Munich is certainly not to be missed! Head south and you will discover crystal clear lakes then the stunning mountain scenery of the Bavarian and Austrian Alps - superb ski centres in the winter and fantastic for hiking, mountain biking and much more during the rest of the year. King Ludwig II's fairy tale castle 'Neuschwanstein' nestles in the Alpine foothills only 120km away. Last but not least, many other historical German and European cities close enough for weekend visits - Augsburg (60km); Salzburg (136km); Nuremberg (160km); Prague (380km); Vienna (430km) to name but a few.
