Cultural Activities in Frankfurt
One of our main topics is, besides German language instruction, to make you and all of our students familar with the interesting things about Germany, especially on the cultural and economic fields. Once a week we will therefore provide cultural activities on changing topics.
There will be visits of Frankfurt city sightseeing points such as the historical centre of Frankfurt, Goethehaus, and Paulskirche, as well as going to museums, or visiting famous industries (Opelwerke, a GM production site; Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung), or leisure sports activities.
Reduced Admission Fees: Reduced admission fees will be granted on most institutions and events presenting your student's ID.
Sample Events
- Visit studios of TV Channels - Visiting the production sites and studios of TV channels, like ZDF located in Mainz, or of radio stations like Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt, will show you the work of reporters and of the technical staff.
- How to get an Apple into a Bottle - «Possmann» is the name of a press house famous for its cider. Here you will learn about the secrets of cider production.
- Urban Life and Work - Numerous famous architects, e.g. Richard Meier, Sir Norman Foster or Helmut Jahn, have formed the character of Frankfurt. Visions of urban life and work are linked with their architecture.
- Hop and Malt - The art of brewing beer is part of German culture and heritage. A guided tour on the site of the brewery Henninger/Binding will show you the process an some secrets of brewing beer.
- Wiesbaden - the Hessian Capital - In Wiesbaden you'll find the Casino, the Hessian Parliament, historical buildings of the old centre and the Residence.
- Visits to Heidelberg, Cologne and Munich - Heidelberg provides a very special atmosphere both romantic and historical. Cologne with its world famous cathedral and old quarters provides a very special flair. The highlight of our visit will be a guided tour to the chocolate museum Immhoff Stollwerk. On a weekend trip to the Munich you'll encounter some characteristic features as well as the typical atmosphere of the Bavarian capital.
Accommodation Options in Frankfurt
If requested, we will be able to provide private accommodation for you. Some hosts live near our school.
Families mostly live in «green» boroughs, downtown or near the university.
You will find mainly singles, or people who share an apartment. Some hosts also provide breakfast or half-board.
We offer also an apartment with other students from our school: You live in an apartment with other students from our German courses. The apartment have two or more bedrooms. The kitchen and bathroom are shared with others in the apartments.
Rooms will usually be reserved on Sunday before the language courses start. Hosts also provide bedclothes and towels. The comfort of the rooms will vary.
Private accommodation of course is not the same as living in a hotel. You will have to take care of your room by yourself. On the first days of your stay you should discuss the terms with your hosts, i.e. talk about using the kitchen, the telephone, and about mealtimes if you have breakfast and half-board.
Please bear in mind that most hosts will request a deposit before giving you the keys. Deposits will be between 50 € and 100 € and will be refunded by the end of your stay.

German Course Program in Frankfurt
TANDEM Frankfurt - Zentrum für deutsche Sprache und Kultur e.V. offers the following German Course Program:
German «Kompakt Plus» Course
These German Intensive Courses are offered at certain course dates. Classes are from Monday to Friday and on all levels, from beginners' to advanced. These courses will systematically develop your linguistic comprehension in terms of reading and listening and will train your speaking and writing skills. A German Compact Course - Plus prepares you for exams such as «Zertifikat Deutsch» or «Mittelstufendiplom» and is designed for students who wish to study more intensively and/or aim for entering a German univeristy.
Schedule (20 units per week): Monday to Friday 09.00 am - 12.30 pm or 1.30 pm - 5.00 pm.
German «Kombi 40» Course
Our students attend German lessons in the morning and afternoon. Each section contains one German «Kompakt Plus» Course, with different language requirements. Please note, that beginners can only attend a combined course from the second month on.
Schedule (40 units per week): Morning, Monday - Friday 09.00 am - 12.30 pm and 01.30 pm - 05.00 pm (8x45 minutes)
Summer Program German
In July and August we offer an interesting program in addition to the «Kompakt Plus» or «Kombi 40» classes, including cultural and leisure activities (e.g. sightseeing in Frankfurt, visiting various institutions, seminars and excursions 1-2 times a week). Depending on the interests of participants, we can arrange weekend trips, for instance to Heidelberg or Cologne.

Frankfurt is one of the largest European financial centers, an open-minded, tolerant, and multi-cultural city full of life.
Its renowned opera, theatre, and ballet companies invite you for a visit, just as the numerous museums on the banks of the river Main. Discover the local charm and the traditional cuisine in tiny neighbourhoods, such as Sachsenhausen, just some minutes from the glittering skyline of the Frankfurt financial district. Many other places for day and night time excursions are also to be found in the city suburbs.
Or relax in one of the inner city parks: the Palmengarten (botanical gardens) and public central parks welcome you.
The area around Frankfurt is known for the Rhine valley with its picturesque vineyards, historical villages and castles. Nearby you find the famous university towns of Mainz and Heidelberg, Cologne and Munich can easily be reached from Frankfurt too.

Our German language school is unique in its friendly and welcoming atmosphere; its curriculum is entertaining and its results are excellent.
TANDEM Frankfurt - Zentrum für deutsche Sprache und Kultur e.V. is located in a quiet but central part of Frankfurt. Means of public transport will take you to the city centre in a few minutes. A large shopping mile called «Zeil» offers many opportunities for shopping, socialising, and browsing. It is located a few steps from the historical centre, famous for the City Hall, Paulskirche, and Cathedral. Just across the river Main, museums invite you to up-to-date exhibitions.
Our German school cooperates with language schools throughout Germany and abroad, offering full year German language programs at reasonable tuition fees. Our language programs are officially recognized and certified. There are intensive programs for all instruction levels, beginners' courses start each month.
Starting to learn a new language may be difficult. With a step by step schedule, our German school places students in various level groups where language skills are acquired.
Our instruction is based on building vocabulary and grammar skills by means of working out practical situations of everyday life and topics of common interest. In class, we use textbooks as well as audio-visual devices. Our German courses invite you to discover the German language with a touch of indispensable humour.
