German Courses in Dresden: about Dresden, Germany
Written by AdministratorLearn German in Dresden – the «Florence on the Elbe»
Learning German in the city known as the «Florence on the Elbe» is a unique cultural experience. The Saxon metropolis with the Frauenkirche, the Zwinger and the Moritzburg castle is the centre par excellence of the German baroque style. Its highlights include magnificent buildings, world-famous art collections, and living traditions both in music and the fine arts.
Today, Dresden offers a unique blend of stunning architecture and great natural beauty of the countryside along the Elbe River, which is a world heritage sight dotted with wonderful castles and villas.
The academic diversity of Dresden is also noteworthy. Beside the Technical University, where the colour television was invented amongst other innovations, the Music Academy, the Palucca School of Dance and the Art Academy draw students to Dresden from all over Germany and abroad.
On the northern banks of the Elbe River lies the cosmopolitan quarter of Dresden-Neustadt which includes many small galleries, theatres, and colourful houses. Every night young people from all walks of life meet here and enjoy themselves in the numerous trendy bars, street cafés, and international restaurants.
Did you know that the famous writer Erich Kästner spent his childhood in the Neustadt? This is also where Kästner Kolleg has its home and lives up to the author's motto: «There is nothing good: unless one does it».

German Courses in Dresden: Kästner Kolleg e.V. - TANDEM Dresden
Written by AdministratorKästner Kolleg e.V.: German Courses in Dresden since 1998
Kästner Kolleg was founded in 1998, and since then it has evolved into a modern, middle-sized language school that belongs to the leaders in language training in Dresden.
We are a non-profit organization whose members each participate in the decision-making process of the school. A personal and friendly atmosphere offers you a real alternative to the mass production-like larger institutions and franchise schools.
The satisfaction of our course participants can be summed up in a simple formula: «highest teaching standards + service + fun = fast successful learning». All of our teachers are native German speakers with university degrees, and they are specialists in teaching German as a Foreign Language.
We are accredited by the Bundesverband deutscher Privatschulen, the Regionalschulamt of Saxony and we are a TELC Examination Centre.
Seven sunny and well-equipped teaching rooms, a modern library with up-to-date teaching material, multimedia and internet pool, and a small cafeteria are awaiting you right next door to the charming Alaun Park: a green oasis in the vibrant «Szeneviertel - Neustadt» which is a colourful home to students and artists, and which offers international culture, art, and cuisine.
Kästner Kolleg – TANDEM Dresden would like to become your home away from home for an unforgettable time. Thanks to the friendliness and warm hospitality of its people, it is easy to make new friends here - and of course learn year round German quickly by just speaking it all the time. And with our additional field trips and creative learning projects like «German in the City», you are brought closer to the German language, people and culture.
