French Courses in Montreal: about Montreal, Canada
Learn French in Montreal, a bilingual city with flair!
One of the most exciting and friendly cities in North America, Montreal immerses you into a multi-cultural world of fascinating sites, sounds and tastes. Montreal was founded by the French in 1642, and Montreal continues to retain a strong connection to its historical roots, and a European flavor that is unique in North America.
It is a beautiful, safe, island city with a population of 3.6 million representing more than 80 different ethnic groups.
It is a bilingual city where French and English are used on a daily basis on the streets and in shops; a vibrant yet sophisticated city that plays host to thousands of visitors every year with a blend of modern and historical charm surrounded by nature.
Montrealers love to celebrate; it is a city known for its great nightlife with clubs and bars as well as outdoor terraces in the spring and summer months, and thousands of restaurants serving authentic cuisine from around the world! Join Montrealers as they enjoy festival after festival in any season: the Jazz festival, the Fireworks festival, the Hot-air balloon festival, F1 car racing, to name just a few summer festivals. Fall brings the beautiful changing of the leaves which makes a great backdrop for horseback riding or hiking and apple picking. Our famous winters never stop a true Montrealer from taking up new adventurous experiences such as ice climbing, winter camping, or ice skating on one of the many frozen ice rinks around the city, and spring is a great time to taste our traditional maple syrup.
The longer you stay in Montreal, the more you discover, like the different quarters of the city. One of the most popular tourist areas is Old Montreal, which has retained its European charm. Along the 300-year-old cobblestone streets, you can find bistros, shops, clubs, art galleries, museums, and the Old Port. Take a walk from the old town to the downtown core through the biggest underground city in the world. The tunnels extend for nearly 30 kilometers and connect most of the major shopping malls and subway stations downtown. The Montreal public transportation system of buses and subway trains (Metro) is excellent and affordable to get you around Montreal quickly and easily.
